Thanks everyone for your insight. I did end up doing what Booth threwout
& made monreas1 field also have the errmsg, never occurred to me to do it
that way so thanks Booth :-)list
Some of you mentioned that you handle error messages using a different
method, could any of you give me an example?

Yes, but unless ERRSFL is also specified only the first ERRMSG will be
effective.
