I agree with Steve
any changes to the screen AFTER the ERRMSG or ERRMSGID is switched on will
NOT be reflected on the actual display
Stepping through using STRDBG, you can actually see values of fields in the
screen changing, but when the EXFMT is executed, those changes do NOT
appear.
Apparently, this is the way IBM intended it ti work.
I try and keep away form ERRMSG & ERRMSGID and build message subfiles
instead

When the display record format has ERRMSG or ERRMSGID active, it's in
an override status, so other changes don't get displayed. I believe
if you add OVRATR to MONREAS1, the RI will become effective. (I'm
working from memory, so OVRATR may not be the correct name of the
attribute.)
