The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

I gave it a shot but I still get a session error.
Not surprising. I did not properly read your initial description.
This is the key sentence:
I also do not want to display the format in either program A or B.
You cannot READ a format that has not been written to the display. It
doesn't exist. If program B did not actually WRITE the format to the
screen then it has neither populated nor built the format--all it's
done is load some program variables. Unless those program variables
are in storage common to A and B (passed by reference from A to B) it
is not possible for A to access them.
Perhaps you could get B to WRITE to the screen with DFRWRT(*YES) in
which case the format won't be displayed until a subsequent READ is
performed. This might make the format available for reading by A but
even if that worked it's a stupid way to achieve your end.
Find a better way.
a) Passed parameters
b) Data area
c) Data queue
d) Message queue
e) Database file
etc. Anything would be better than pursuing this idea.

Simon Coulter.
