My guess is you have memory problems caused by parameter mismatches that only show because the compiler has moved memory locations for debug info...

Anybody ever encounter anything like this? A program works fine last
week, but I recompile it today, and it gets a "pointer not set" error
when it chains a record from a file.

It's the mixed-language program from last week, and I only recompiled it
so that I could run it in the debugger, thereby adding some refinements.
