I have a situation where I need to keep a number of key data items in

There is an existing trigger program over the file which I'd like to see
if I can use to solve my problem.

Ok here goes, we can have the same member on our main membership file
many times. We are going thro' an exercise to link these accounts. Once
linked I need to keep items such as name, address details in sync across
all accounts. Because of the existence of the trigger program I thought
I could maybe use this to avoid having to scroll through our system
looking for places where these items are updated.

Member file Trg1 Member
link - Member file
Update member's address - Trigger called - Linked member
found - Need to update Member address of linked Member (this
will execute Trg1 and therefore crashes)

What follows is speculation. Give it the respect that speculation
deserves.

I can imagine the trigger program being written so as to put the new
details into each record for the member. It might seem reasonable to
put them even into the record that caused the trigger call; after all
changing a field to its old value does not really change anything.

If you created the trigger with the default values
ADDPFTRG ALWREPCHG(*NO)
the trigger fails when it tries to update the record for which it was
called.

Is this consistent with the observed behaviour?

Cheers,
Terry,

Can anybody advise
