Yes, but why would that be more of a gotcha on %eof() than
%eof(filename)? They are wrong in either case.

If the READE returned %EOF and the CHAIN succeeded (%FOUND() = *ON)

Then in the first example, %eof(myFILE) would return *OFF; whereas in
the second example, %eof() would still be *ON.

I'm not saying it's a common occurrence, just saying that there is a
difference in the behavior of
%eof() and %eof(myFile).

I didn't know that either. I'm not sure why that would consider a
gotcha when using %eof() vs %eof(filename)?

Reade (myKey) myFile
Chain (myKey) myFile
If %eof(myFile) <== result of this testing would be wrong
Endif

Reade (myKey) myFile
Chain (myKey) myFile
If %eof() <== result of this testing would be wrong
also
Endif

I did not know that. Thankfully I always qualify anyway.

<Charles Wilt>
One possible gotcha to using %eof() instead of %eof(filename) is that
a successful SETLL, SETGT, OPEN, or CHAIN will set %eof(filename) =
*OFF.
But %eof() will be unchanged.

I always use %eof(filename).
