Does the %trim bif look for just blanks (hex 40) or does it also trim
nulls (hex 00) I have two 15 character fields. One is coming from a
database, one is passed as a parameter. Both contain an IP address
(aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd). In the database field the trailing characters are
always spaces if the ipaddress is not the full 15 characters. The
parameter being passed will sometimes end in spaces and sometimes end
in nulls (hex '00'). I did a compare using... If %trim(dbfield) <>
%trim(parameter); And when the parameter field ended in hex 00 the if
was evaluated as true.

You can trim any combination of blanks or nulls if you use the second parameter of %trim.

If %trimr(dbfield) <> %trimr(parameter : ' ' + x'00');

If parameter = 'a.b.c.d ' or 'a.b.c.dnnnnn' or even a mixture of blanks an nulls like 'a.b.c.dn nn n ', the result of the second %trimr of parameter would be 'a.b.c.d'. (where n = null)
