I've been reading this thread and I remember learning fairly recently
that the Windows version of ping has a "-a" switch|parameter that
returns the URL when pinging the IP address, e.g.
C:\>ping -a 216.109.112.135
Pinging w2.rc.vip.dcn.yahoo.com [216.109.112.135] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 216.109.112.135: bytes=32 time=97ms TTL=55
Reply from 216.109.112.135: bytes=32 time=100ms TTL=55
Reply from 216.109.112.135: bytes=32 time=100ms TTL=55
Reply from 216.109.112.135: bytes=32 time=100ms TTL=55
Ping statistics for 216.109.112.135:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 97ms, Maximum = 100ms, Average = 99ms
I noticed that the i5/OS version of ping does not have an equivalent,
but I'm curious -- what exactly is it doing, a reverse DNS lookup?
