On the other hand, one I can also think of a reason that reading the
record format might be preferable. If the EXTFILE keyword is used on the
F-spec there is a chance that reading based on the file name could be
misleading:
FFILEA IF E K DISK EXTFILE(readFrom) USROPN
...
/free
readFrom = 'FILEB';
read FILEA;
/end-free
I'm not entirely convinced that either way is better, but it seems that
"read a file, write a record" is more standard.
