You have to be _really_ careful drawing conclussions from timing
loops when the optimizer is involved. AMong other things, it has the
option to simply remove code that achieves nothing. For example if
the following two lines are coded:
X = 5;
X = 10;
The first operation will be removed as it is regarded as a redundant
store i.e. the value of X was changed, but the content after the
change was not referenced either directly or indirectly before it was
changed again.
Without seeing your code it is difficult to even guess what the
optimizer would do.
