In this case, the files are opened as program-described, because their
exact structure varies from one implementation to another (and from one
file to another, within up to 25 different files of this particular
class within an implementation). This variation, however, is defined
within strict limits, and the keys all conform to one of three
variations on a known pattern (and we know, for any given file, which of
those three variations).
