David,

Joe does a good job outlining the details, but let me simplify.

SQL doesn't handle "Position To".

With SQL, you have either "Start at" or "Subset/filter by".

The difference between "Position To" and "Start at" are that with "Position To", you can go backward
from the first record retrieved. With "Start at" you can't.

I've never found SQL limitations to be a killer once it was explained to the users. Particularly if
the inability to page backward from the beginning was accompanied by a increase in fields you can use
for "Start At" or "subset/filter by"

HTH,
Charles

Subject: SETLL in SQL ?

I'm looking at a progrram that does charges a subfile with
SETLL followed by READE on ROLLUP, SETGT followed by READPE
on ROLLDOWN.

What would be the equivalent in SQL if I wanted to replace
the SETLL/GT?

Close cursor?

TIA?
