no, thanks. I am talking about RPG and Java working together on the
400 like C++ and VB do in .NET.
I'm going to kick myself for getting into this conversation, but what the
heck, I haven't had a root canal lately, so...
Steve, your constant requirement that i5/OS tools work "like they do in
.NET" is as useless as me asking that Windows use a single level store. It
wastes everyone's time, because it's a non-sequitur.
RPG and Java interoperability on i5/OS is as good as any two languages that
don't compile to the same intermediate language. It's better than any of
the scripting languages' (that includes PHP, Perl, Python, you name it) and
outside languages.
On the other side of the coin, all of the ILE languages interact as well as
the .NET languages, precisely because they do use the same basic underlying
architecture (and were doing it long before .NET).
So quit playing my architecture is bigger than your architecture and explain
an actual business application where the Java<->RPG interaction in i5/OS
won't work. I don't want to hear any mumbo-jumbo about threads or recursion
or what have you. Just give me a single business application that the
architecture won't support.
Ah, I nearly deleted this because I know it's a waste of time, but what the
hell, occasionally you make me think outside my own box, so maybe you'll
give me the courtesy of answering my question for once.
