Hoo boy, I had to read that sentence twice. At first I thought you meant that RPG was a decade older than COBOL and I was gonna say "are you nuts? RPG from the 40's?" but then I realized you meant that RPG/400 was a decade older than ILE RPG IV (or whatever the proper name is now...).

And I know for a fact that COBOL was created here in Philadelphia in 1956 at the University of Pennsylvania in a joint effort with the US Navy and Grace Hopper. RPG grew out of a need to consistently write reports, hence the cycle.
