Paul,
Just an FYI - I'm the lead developer on the team that built the Web Option
tool that Crispin uses. If you'd like to see a demo of it in action, just
let me know and I can get someone to discuss this with you.
As Crispin says, it uses neither Websphere (which I agree is expensive and a
bear to set up) nor JSP's - it's just pure HTML plus JavaScript and CSS. At
a basic level, it can function as a simple screen-scraper (with easily
sub-second performance), but it can be used to provide much richer
functionality than the underlying green-screen application (which doesn't
need to be changed or even recompiled). Yes, it uses interactive CPW, but
we've found this just isn't a huge issue for our customers - it's typically
either being used as a direct replacement for green-screen (so there's no
loss or gain either way) or is being used by companies who want to open up
their applications to the internet, where the temporary hit of someone
logging in, ordering something and logging off isn't a problem.
Regards,
Rory
