The DATFMT() keyword in the DDS for a physical file only
controls how that value is displayed.
It acts in a way comparable to the way the EDTCDE() keyword.

True - except that for files there is always a default of DATFMT(*ISO) in
place in the event that you don't specify a format yourself. So in effect
every date field always has a format specified. In database the default is
*ISO - in RPG it is *ISO or whatever was specified on the H spec.
