The other possibility is to use the Qp0lGetAttr() and qp0lSetAttr() APIs 
to retrieve the attributes of the directory, and set them in the file, 
respectively.  This would certainly be more work (especially if the 
O_INHERITMODE solves the problem!) but you'd only have to write the 
routine once and stick it in a service program...
