I think that the documentation is fine. To position the file before the first record of a file, you should be using setll with a rrn of 1. Probably, the compiler should have flagged an rrn of 0 as an error or should have gotten a run-time exception. As someone else mentioned, requesting that the file be positioned at a rrn that is invalid doesn't make sense. In other words, Setll w/rrn = 1 means, position the file before the 1st record, ie. at the beginning of the file. Therefore Setll w/rrn = 0 means, position the file one record before the 1st record, ie. before the beginning of the file. You won't be able to talk IBM into making 0 = 1 <grin> But you could probably get them to throw an exception on rrn = 0. It should set to the beginning of file according to setll documentation. -----Original Message----- From: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Wilt, Charles Sent: Friday, October 20, 2006 1:36 PM To: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Subject: RE: Using RRN 0 to do Setll on arrival sequence file Ah, but did you try doing a read after the setll with 0? It'd be interesting if the read works. For a non empty file, READ will be successful when cursor is at BOF. READ will failed when cursor is at EOF. The opposite applies for READP. So, for me, technically, they are not the same. -----Original Message----- From: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Bob P. Roche <clip> technically the begiining of the file is and "end offile" Youcan set on EOF from READP also. </clip> -- This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries(RPG400-L) mailinglist To post a message email: RPG400-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/rpg400-l or email: RPG400-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take amoment to review the archives athttp://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l.-- This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries (RPG400-L) mailing list To post a message email: RPG400-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/rpg400-l or email: RPG400-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l. -- This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries (RPG400-L) mailing list To post a message email: RPG400-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/rpg400-l or email: RPG400-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l.
