But... "The SETLL operation positions a file at the next record that has a key or relative record number that is greater than or equal to the search argument (key or relative record number) operand specified (search-arg)." If 0 is accepted as a valid rrn search argument, then reading the above one could expect that setll with rrn = 0, would position before rrn = 1. As I understand it, the above is the basis of Lim's question. Personally, I think a run time error should have been thrown. Barbara must not be around today, it'd be interesting to hear what she has to say about this behavior. We'll that enough of the Friday debates of how many angels can dance on the dead of a pin for me. I'm going home. Hope everybody has a good weekend! SetLL 0 finds no record, as there is no such thing, so the file is positioned to EoF. In a file where the first RRN is 2, SetLL 1 positions to the deleted RRN 1 record, not to EOF. (I'm guessing it positions to the deleted record, though I know it doesn't position to EoF.) SetGT 0 will accomplish, Lim, what you're looking to do with SetLL 0. It should set to the beginning of file according to setll documentation. -----Original Message----- From: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Wilt, Charles Sent: Friday, October 20, 2006 1:36 PM To: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Subject: RE: Using RRN 0 to do Setll on arrival sequence file Ah, but did you try doing a read after the setll with 0? It'd be interesting if the read works. For a non empty file, READ will be successful when cursoris at BOF.READ will failed when cursor is at EOF. The opposite applies for READP. So, for me, technically, they are not the same. -----Original Message----- From: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Bob P.
