I mistyped that. Supposed to be "chain update file" not chain and update
file.

So looks like:

Chain FileInQuestion;
Chain OtherFileA;
Chain OtherFileB;
Update RecordOfFileInQuestion;

I thought that was supposed to work.

You have two updates against 1 chain.  The first update released the lock.
You have to rechain it.

Straight from the RPGLE Reference:
Consecutive UPDATE operations to the same file or record are not valid.
Intervening successful read operations must be issued to position to and
lock the record to be updated.

After they hit enter on the screen, I chain update the fields, chain a
couple other files to get some info, then update the record (it doesn't
like
this).
