I wanted to thank you on that Rob. I actually found a need to use that the
other day. I found this to be a better option than concatenating a the
string together.

Have you look at parameter markers instead?
c eval sqlstmt = %trim(sqlstmt) +
c %trim(insert) + ' ' +
c ' ' + %trim(filnam) +
c ' ' + %trim(fields ) +
c ' VALUES(?,?,?,?,?)'
c/exec sql
c prepare statement using :sqlstmt
c/end-exec
c/exec sql
c execute statement using :value1, :value2, :value3, :value4, :value5
c/end-exec

RE: Include Numeric Field In SQL String

Matt,

I ran into the same thing in the past two weeks trying to assemble a
PREPARE
statement. The method I used derived the character value of the numeric
field:

SqlStmt = 'Select * From FILENAME Where DATECYMD Is Between ' +
%Char(FromCYMD: 'Z') + ' And ' + %Char(ToCYMD: 'Z') ' Order By DATECYMD,
INVOICE# For Read Only'

The edit code `Z` will put the field into the string as a character value
with leading zeros suppressed. I used this rather than a few other
methods
discussed because I had eight different permutations of my record
selection
which included a varying number of fields.

Subject: Include Numeric Field in SQL String

I have a need to pass a string to a procedure that will execute an SQL
statement. Is there a way to include a numeric field with this? I've
tried
a few things, buy they've been unsuccessful. I've done this is the past,
but can't locate the example.

In the below example, fields 2 and 5 are numeric. This example fails:

  c eval sqlstmt = %trim(sqlstmt) +
c %trim(insert) + ' ' +
c ' ' + %trim(filnam) +
c ' ' + %trim(fields ) +
c ' VALUES(' +
c Q + Value1 + Q + ',' +
c Value2 +
c Q + Value3 + Q + ',' +
c Q + Value4 + Q + ',' +
c Value5 +')'

  TIA,

  Matt
