Patty, I just wanted to add that if you decide to take the 'look at some code and learn how RPG verbs map to COBOL verbs' method, feel free to post questions that may come up on this list. You will find the list members very helpful, particularly if your questions are along the lines of "Here is some code, this is what the documentation says, but I'm a bit confused by this part". I came from a C++/Java/various scripting languages background, and I think it is probably quite feasible to learn the syntax by reading example code and trying out some programs. Good luck, Adam Michael Ryan wrote on 16/08/2006 12:06:46 PM:
Patty - If you're a COBOL programmer, you'll do fine as an RPG/IV programmer.
Just
need to learn the different verbs (Eval vs. Compute, ExSr vs. Perform,
Read
with some blather vs. Chain). On 8/16/06, Poss, Patty <pattyp@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:Thank you to all. I am currently a COBOL programmer. My company has converted to use

parent company's AS400. They are strictly an RPG shop, and I've been asked to find classes to get me up and going in RPG. I will check
into
all suggestions that have been given! Thanks again. Patty
