I have a program which returns a pointer to a string. It currently setons on LR before returning. I use the pointer in subsequent programs and everything seems to work okay. However, will that memory location eventually be re-used, since I set on LR?

That depends. If you're using DFTACTGRP(*YES), then turning on LR might wreak havoc with the pointer. (Actually, I'm not sure if it will, but I think it will.) However, if you're using DFTACTGRP(*NO), then it'll definitely remain valid until the activation group is reclaimed. (Or until you DEALLOC it -- but I'm sure you knew that.)
