Thanks Matt - I wasn't too sure Alan Shore NBTY, Inc (631) 244-2000 ext. 5019 AShore@xxxxxxxx <Matt.Haas@thomso n.com> Sent by: To rpg400-l-bounces@ <rpg400-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> midrange.com cc Subject 06/09/2006 03:37 RE: Embedded SQL within an RPGILE PM program Please respond to RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries <rpg400-l@midrang e.com> It's exactly the same. Anytime you need to process more than one row from a query (it doesn't matter what the query is), you use a cursor. I'll search the archives for cursors, but because of what I am asking for (data from a group, rather than an individual record), is the use of a cursor in this example, still the same Alan Shore NBTY, Inc (631) 244-2000 ext. 5019 AShore@xxxxxxxx <Matt.Haas@thomso n.com> Sent by: To rpg400-l-bounces@ <rpg400-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> midrange.com cc Subject 06/09/2006 03:24 RE: Embedded SQL within an RPGILE PM program Please respond to RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries <rpg400-l@midrang e.com> All you need to do is create a cursor with your SQL statement in it and process the results of the cursor. There should be examples of cursors in the archives. I have a file DISKA, with the DDS as follows FIELD-A 3 FIELD-B 30 FIELD-C 180 FIELD-D 5 5 Within STRSQL, I know you can type the following command SELECT FIELD-B, FIELD-D, count(*) FROM DISKA GROUP BY FIELD-B, FIELD-D ORDER BY FIELD-B, FIELD-D and the result would be a display of unique groups with a count of records within each group. Now my question is, how could I (if its possible)code this as embedded SQL, so that I can retrieve and display the data/results in a sub-file? My experience with embedded SQL leaves a lot to be desired, and I'm not too sure how to handle this.
