One situation: Relational Integrity: If you use zero as "no data" then you need to code a record with Zero as the key in the master file.

Other example: My table contains the time when the employee is souposed to arrive and the diference between that time and the real time he did arrive. Null is when he did not yet arrive or he is absent, zero: he got exactly on time.
