Before v5r3 you needed the %char.

This didn't compile - I got three errors:
*RNF0338 20 1 The third parameter for %DEC may not be omitted when second parameter is specified. 
*RNF0327 30      1 The first parameter for %DEC or %DECH is not valid.
*RNF0328 30      1 The second parameter for %DEC or %DECH is not valid.
I wonder if it is something to do with how RPG handles the printfile field - it is defined zoned, but is probably packed in the program. Maybe this is causing the errors.
