I've had "analyst" in my title for a long time. Getting it had more to do with the pay band I was in than actual duties. I've also noticed that job titles for techie folks seem to have little to do with what that person actually does and the same title can have different meanings at different companies (and if the company is large enough, it may even have different meanings within different divisions of the same company). I was an Operations Business Analyst in a prior life. I was sent out to talk to users, determine needs, write programming specs (sometimes write the program), test the program, install it into production, update the user profile to be able to use the program, train the user to use the program... About the same thing I'm doing now without a title.
