In the original post, you said you have to print it if the record are different. In the print out do you actually need to print the field name that cause the different and the values of field? If so, that would be a bit harder to do. If not, I think you can do the following: Read myfileFmt myFileFmt1DS Read myfileFmt myFileFmt2DS Eval myFileFmt2DS.key1 = myFileFmt1DS.key1 Eval myFileFmt2DS.key2 = myFileFmt1DS.key2 Eval myFileFmt2DS.key3 = myFileFmt1DS.key3 . . . If myFileFmt1DS <> myFileFmt2DS ... Print it endif -----Original Message----- From: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of gopal barnwal Sent: Thursday, November 10, 2005 10:40 AM To: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Subject: RE: Comparing two records of a file Thanks for the reply guys. But I think there is some misunderstanding. Actually there is only one file and in that file two records needs to be compared. Please note that the fields of the file are numeric in between. I don't really want to compare field by field and I am looking for something better. Please let me know if there is still any confusion. Thanks,
