Tony, if however, you always want to flip the sign, so that negatives become > positives, and positives become negatives, multiply by -1 > It is faster to do addition / subtraction then multiplication, so: x = 0 - x; is faster to execute. On an I/O bound program, that is like stepping on a chair to get closer to the moon (as Barbara Morris would say), but there is no real reason to use a multiply for this operation. Doug
