For a couple of years it siphoned off ten or twenty percent of the really simple or very non-iSeries related questions, and then (perhaps as Java lost some of its luster) the number of Java issues in general died down and JAVA101 became pretty quiet. And at the same time, for the beginning questions, I think people were able to move to other more suitable resources like JavaRanch; my guess is there are similar places where someone's would be better spent for beginning SQL questions. But I'm not going to waste time arguing the merits of any new lists. In the end it's up to David. Joe
