I missed the discrete math but took the rest. Of course, I was a history major so discrete math wasn't required. In business programming I don't think there's much practical value to anything beyond second year high school algebra unless you're doing some kind of forecasting or trying to do something like find the shortest route for warehouse workers to assemble a pick list. I enjoyed the college math anyway. It was kind of like hands on music appreciation or art history. An introductory course in mathematical logic is more valuable. I ran into a DeMorgan's law thing about an hour ago. Mainly it can help make your if statements more readable. The compiler doesn't care. <><><>-----Original Message----- <><><>From: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx <><><>[mailto:rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Wilt, Charles <><><>Sent: Wednesday, August 31, 2005 10:45 AM <><><>To: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries <><><>Subject: RE: Dumb programming question.. <><><> <><><>> -----Original Message----- <><><>> From: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx <><><>> [mailto:rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Holden Tommy <><><>> Sent: Wednesday, August 31, 2005 1:25 PM <><><>> To: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries <><><>> Subject: RE: Dumb programming question.. <><><>> <><><>> <><><>> Think math...ewww... <><><>> <><><>> All portions of an equation are performed in <><><>parenthetical heirarchy. <><><>> <><><>> Basically what the parens say is this: <><><>> <><><>> First subtract 1 from fielda <><><>> Then divide that result by fielda <><><>> Use that result to multiply by 100 <><><>> <><><>> <><><>> I really hate math... <><><>> <><><> <><><>I like it pretty well... <><><> <><><>good thing as Calc I, II, III along with Matrix Algebra <><><>and Discrete Mathematics were required for my CS degree. <><><> <><><>Though I must admit, one reason I went for CS instead of <><><>CEG was that CEG required Calc IV and CS didn't ;-) <><><> <><><>Charles <><><> <><><>-- <><><>This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries <><><>(RPG400-L) mailing list To post a message email: <><><>RPG400-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or <><><>change list options, <><><>visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/rpg400-l <><><>or email: RPG400-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx <><><>Before posting, please take a moment to review the <><><>archives at http://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l. <><><> <><><> ***************************** NOTICE: All e-mail sent to or from this e-mail address will be received or otherwise recorded by The Sharper Image corporate e-mail system and is subject to archival, monitoring, and review by and/or disclosure to Sharper Image security and other management.
