Hmm...It's a religious question. I was brought up in the Brotherhood of
the Priming Read. At the risk of being branded a heretic for even
considering the dread dou:

setll myfile;

dou %eof(myfile);
    read(myfile);

    if NOT %eof(myfile);
        do_stuff();
    endif;

enddo;

Dou is actually fine, but I've seen good programmers get bitten by the
always execute once property. Checking for EOF twice in the same loop
goes against my grain, but it's probably the BOTPR's influence. Not
using Leave and iter is also part of the California BOTPR's doctrine
even if though leave would eliminate the two checks for EOF. I'm so
thoroughly brainwashed that I feel guilty about using multiple return
statements in a procedure.

The above approach is only clean looking if the do_stuff portion is
encapsulated in a subroutine or procedure. I foam at the mouth when I
see large blocks of code contained in an if statement.

<><><>I don't like that. "Iter" seems like "next record" to me.

<><><>I like to do it this way:

<><><>Setll mykey myfile;
<><><>Dow '1';

<><><>    Leave;
<><><>  Endif;

<><><>That just seems the clearest to me.
