Perhaps more importantly, you need to know the strengths and weaknesses of the available languages, so that you're able to use the mixed-language capability inherent in ILE to advantage. What's the use of having an environment designed for mixed-language *PGMs if you're only using one language, or if you're not using the best available language for any particular part of the problem you're attempting to solve? -- JHHL
