I would say that if it is a current part of the language, you should at least be aware of it's existence and basically what it does. You don't ever have to use it, but if you don't even know about it or some other function, you might be doing something the hard way or confused in someone else's code. -----Original Message----- From: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Joel Fritz Sent: Monday, June 13, 2005 1:57 PM To: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Subject: RE: Do you use BITOF? Seems to me that a lot of the tech interview questions and tests are firmly rooted in the past. One of my favorites was a question about the logical file access path maintenance parm. I'd never seen it or used it because the shop I started in always used immediate. It's one of those things that's been made obsolete by hardware improvements. The only time I've used bit operators recently was when I had to parse a text file where the properties of each record were defined in a bitmap. I used the built in functions because I found them easier to work with. > -----Original Message----- > From: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx > [mailto:rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Shannon ODonnell > Sent: Monday, June 13, 2005 11:32 AM > To: 'RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries' > Subject: Do you use BITOF? > > I took an RPG Assessment test the other day and to my > surprise, there were FOUR QUESTIONS!
