As you arrive at that level of sophistication it might be cleaner and simpler to just fill two subfiles everytime, and then let the user choose which view to see with an F-key. Its not much more work, and it sure is easier to understand or modify 3 months later --------------------------------- Booth Martin http://www.martinvt.com --------------------------------- -------Original Message------- From: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Date: 05/18/05 13:51:03 To: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Subject: Re: Subfiles - overlapping fields That is a great technique if you're only displaying data. But what if you want input capable data in your subfile? Thanks, Mark Mark D. I usually build a single alpha field as the subfile record, and then use hidden fields for the real data. Then I create data structures based on the multiple record types I want to show, and EVAL the appropriate . With the ability to color sections of an alpha field (which I just learned from this message group -- thanks again!), this allows you to show or not show whatever you want, with colors and attributes, per subfile record. <snip> On 5/17/05, Kurt Anderson <kjanderson@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > > As wonderful as subfiles are, I get tired of not being able to condition > a field in a subfile.
