I want you to try an exercise. Rewrite your RPG400 applications into RPGII applications. After you've done about a dozen programs one of two things will happen: I - Find it a snap meaning your code is REALLY old and definitely needs modernizing. II - See our frustration as why people would rewrite something in RPG400 when they should be using RPGLE. The tool of the day is WDSC. http://www-306.ibm.com/software/awdtools/wdt400/ If you have PDM and 1 of any language, and you are at a certain release of OS/400, then you're entitled to an unlimited number of copies of it. Only thing is I could really use something more "verbose" when it comes to calculations. The rewrite will do things like compute an average, maximum, and minimum of a variable over time. Are there ways around some of the mathematical limitations of RPG or are there other iSeries languages I should consider. Does ILE buy me anything here? Also, I'm still using PDM to write code. Are there better things to use for development? Whatever happened to CODE400, VisualRPG, etc? BTW, these are NOT web apps so no need to webface them, although some of the tools I've seen look pretty snappy. TIA - I'm just a tad rusty - does it show? :) -- This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries (RPG400-L) mailing list To post a message email: RPG400-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/rpg400-l or email: RPG400-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l.
