I have never tried this, but if you wanted it to work, your subquery
(SELECT FIELDS FROM LIBRARY/FILE, etc.) would have to resolve to a
where clause, i.e. field1=field2 AND field3=field4.  I don't know if
your approach will work, but a better way would be to use a view for
the update table, i.e.

UPDATE library/VIEW
SET field = 'U'

And have the library/VIEW built to select only the records you want.
