It's free. The current edition is probably the most readable book on RPGIV available. I could be wrong about that, I haven't researched the competition thoroughly. I also think it's a good idea for IBM to put out a general book on RPG that's not a reference manual. Sun provides a java tutorial on their web site. It's not as good as the RPG Redbook, but I guess we're lucky. It's free. -----Original Message----- From: rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:rpg400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Brad Stone Sent: Monday, February 28, 2005 5:23 AM To: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Subject: Re: ** Son of RPG Redbook lives ** Here's a question. I see a lot of input on this RPG Redbook. Now, what makes the Redbook so alluring? It's from IBM? It's free? Both? (I left out "It's written by Jon" because that should be an obvious reason). There are a lot of RPG books/training manuals out there now with some great topics. And I'm sure Jon and others who contribute these types of materials could be better "thanked" through royalties. So I'm assuming the answer to the above question is "it's free"? I'm not putting down redbooks, just curious. -- This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries (RPG400-L) mailing list To post a message email: RPG400-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/rpg400-l or email: RPG400-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l. ***************************** NOTICE: All e-mail sent to or from this e-mail address will be received or otherwise recorded by The Sharper Image corporate e-mail system and is subject to archival, monitoring, and review by and/or disclosure to Sharper Image security and other management.
