I tend to use the C/MI runtime library functions when dealing with large
pieces of data and I like to store the data in a user space to avoid eating
up true memory (although it may not make much difference today).
Data Structure Arrays are a different animal. They aren't really fully
implemented as arrays, they are just alternative syntax so that you can
access the occurrences in the DS easier. SORTA, LOOKUP, %SUBARR() etc. do
not work with DS arrays.

When you say the elements can be 64k, is this the max size for the
entire element? What about a DS array. Can each field in the DS be
up to 64k, or must the total size of the entire DS be 64k or less?

I doubt that any array element of mine will have a problem with the
64k size limit, probably the 32k element count, but this is good to
know.
