Tom, I don't get the internal error on either V5R2 or V5R3 (I just get a
message saying PATIENT.PAGE is not valid). Make sure you're up to date
on PTFS. The latest RPG-compiler PTFS: V5R2 SI16938, V5R3: SI16953. But that will just get you a nicer error message.

You have to do both D spec and I spec rename. And note the *input on
the EXTNAME; if you don't code that, the compiler will say the data
structure is not valid.

fpatmsg if e k disk prefix('PATIENT.') dpatient e ds extname(patmst:*input) qualified
D age e extfld(page) Ipatmstr I page patient.age

This will only work in V5R3. In V5R2, you'd have to use a LIKEREC data
structure, and I can't see a way to make it work with PAGE. You should
probably report this PAGE problem to IBM.

Looks like I need to order some PTFs.

I first noticed this about a year ago, but it's been no big deal (still isn't really) since I use COBOL for most development on this particular client's system. But I had posted another question to the list, and one of the responses led me to try the suggested technique to this 'page' field problem.

As far as reporting it to IBM: can I do that without a software maintenance contract? If not, I'll need to wait about 3 or 4 months until we order our system upgrade (which will include s/w maintenance contract, or so I'm told).

Thanks for all the tips!

Tom
