Users like 2-digits, and in the end they are our consumers.  Yes, 2-digits
has limitations, but the limitations are slight compared to the advantages
to the text-based user.

In which case it would be impossible to ever move a birth date of 1/1/40 to
a four digit date field!  Since you would have to have the same rule in
reverse.
 
We screwed ourselves when we first started using 2 digit representations!
