I think I've mentioned this before, but I still think it's a good idea. Move the earth's orbit so that the year is either 256 or 512 days exactly. There might be some side effects, but I figure if we're able to move the earth's orbit, we can deal with the side effects. <g> -----Original Message----- From: rpg400-l-bounces+jfritz=sharperimage.com@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:rpg400-l-bounces+jfritz=sharperimage.com@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Tony Carolla Sent: Friday, January 28, 2005 2:02 PM To: RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries Subject: Re: Why RPG IV .... <snip> > We screwed ourselves when we first started using 2 digit representations! </snip> Correction. We screwed ourselves when we started limiting the digits in dates period, and believing that there was something in between days and years. Dates should be a huge, single number, and for now, during this time when the rotation count of the earth, during one revolution around the sun is 365.25, we should have a base-365.25 numbering system for dates. Weeks? Months? Theres no such thing. Only even fractional amounts of days and years. But there's too much madness and too many desk calendars on accountant's desks for that to go over.
