That's not true; we do it all the time. All you should need is a *CMD front-end on the program, instead of a CL CALL statement. (And for that matter, why would anybody in his or her right mind call QCMDEXC on a program that DOESN'T have a *CMD front end?)
That's why I said the following (copy & paste from my original message):
If you want to make it longer than that, you have to either pass a variable from another program, or you need to make a command interface for your program.
