I think you're better off using XML or even HTML and embedding the formulas
in those file formats rather than screwing around with the actual Excel file
format itself. I'm sure POI is the best choice for now, however it does
require the use of JAVA within RPG IV and you many not want to do that.

One more thing I'm looking for when creating an Excel spreadsheet from RPGLE
is the ability to create cell comments and document properties such as
Title, Subject, Author, etc.  My customer would like to indicate that the
spreadsheet was created on the AS/400 by the AS/400.  Yes, AS/400 -- their
users don't have a clue about iSeries.

I did not see anything on the Jakarta POI/HSSF (what do those stand for
anyway, POI and HSSF?) website, but I followed this link
http://sc.openoffice.org/excelfileformat.pdf and did a little reading.
There wasn't anything specific, but there is a "NOTE" record in there that
might be it.  Am I missing something again?  Or is this just not implemented
yet?
