The decimal point is optional.  Full Stop.  New concept begins.
The decimal separator can be either a comma or a period.  Full Stop.

There are two separate concepts here.  If the string hasn't got a
decimal point then the compiler presumes you have a whole number,
exactly as if you were to write them out on paper.  If I write 'I have
10 figs' no one will assume that I have 1.0 figs or .01 figs.
