I agree with Scott, if the CCSID was wrong, I would still be able to open the file, but with rubbish data. But Notepad sees it OK, so I don't think thats it. Delphi is a current version (5) and usually gets things right for 32bit Windows, although I have known it to be a bit sensitive at times. I think it points to the IFS Mode. I definately had to change some rights to get the thing going, so I need to do a bit more checking there. (whats a umask ??) Unfortunately I am now out of the office until Thursday morning (its 6.15 pm here), so won't be able to check out any ideas until then. Thanks to those who have helped so far. Hmmm... it sounds like the iSeries is doing it's job properly if Notepad can open the file. I don't know what Delphi does differently... Unless Delphi is an old version, like Win 3.1? Something's not kosher here... If you've got a file mode of 511, everyone should have both read & write authority to the file. Unless it's a umask problem? What's your umask set to? -- This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries (RPG400-L) mailing list To post a message email: RPG400-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/rpg400-l or email: RPG400-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/rpg400-l.
