Hi Tony,

Wouldn't using a prefix on the input file accomplish this? As in

        FTRANS IF E K DISK Prefix(A_)

Then A_Tracro and A_Trfam# would be populated and not Tracro and Trfam#.

Just a thought.

Subject
RE: CHAIN to a DS

You know, I probably didn't make myself clear. I had this idea on my way
into work, and I was excited, and probably blathering...

What I want to do is this:

When you CHAIN to a file, the found record is placed, field by field, in
the
input buffer (the fields contained in the record format).

Example, if you have a file

R Trans

   Tracro 3A

   Trfam# 9P 0

K Tracro 3A

And you have this file specified as an update file, you then have the
following fields available to your module

Tracro

Trfam#

When you do a CHAIN to the TRANS format/file, and a record is found, the
two
fields above now contain the values from the record found by the CHAIN.
_This_ is the action I am trying to avoid. I thought if you specify a DS
on
the CHAIN operation, that the DS would be updated, but the two fields
above
would not be.
