Mark, OK, that gave me a VIEW, but the system still needs an access path, which a view doesn't provide. Running the program in debug after creation of the view, still gives the same result: Access path built from keyed file RFLOGX1 (which doesn't even have the timestamp field in its keys). Thanks anyway. How do you create a field in an LF that's the date portion of a timestamp field in the PF? I had already thought of that also, but I couldn't find any keyword to do that. And simply doing a RENAME() with datatype 'L' is not allowed. And you were right about iSeries Nav: it gave me the exact same info as debug. Another option is to use the SQL analyzer in Ops Navigator to analyze your statement. If you have used debug I don't think this will give any different information. The data is presented in a panelgroup application. The performance, when running in production over a 600.000-record file, is very VERY bad. When I debug the program, it says that arrival sequence is used to build the access path. Is there a way to improve the performance, such as by creating an index that has only the date portion of the timestamp field? Thanks in advance.
