By the way, the SQL catalog is QSYS2/SYSCOLUMNS.

I like API's as much as anyone.  And I've coded at least 4 of them in a 
program today.  However, that file beats an API hands down.

Once you've seen all the stuff you have to code to get the field
descriptions, you might consider using the CrtFldList() procedures in the
RPG xTools library. Or if you don't have or can't get the xTools, use the
SQL Catalog which contains most of the information you need.
