Buck Wrote: Look at the FAQ at http://faq.midrange.com <http://faq.midrange.com> Search for something like 'What does binary mean' --buck Umm, I have no problem understanding binary, and how it relates to base16 and Base10 number systems. Bin(4) - that would be a binary-coded number, 32 bits in length, which is decoded as follows: The first bit has an assigned value of 0 or 1 The 2nd bit has an assigned value of 0 or 2 Etc... You add up the assigned values of the bits turned on, and voila! You have the value represented by a binary coded number. What I am not sure of is where the negative sign bit is placed What I was referring to as 'difficult to decipher', was the structure of the API parameter descriptions. It would be nice if IBM had taken a bit of extra time and showed, on one page, the structure for using each of the key types in their document. Having to expand CHAR(*) types, based on turning the page a few times, only to find another CHAR(*) type, which in turn you have to go to another page, was time consuming.
